The museum is situated by the side of the former Tartu-Võru postal road in the beautiful South-Estonian rolling landscape with the Piigaste Stream winding through it. This peculiar open-air museum gives you an overview of the former parish centre buildings (a school-farm, a communal granary, a commune house and poorhouse) as well as farm buildings built in the last decades of the 19th century. A windmill and the unique mock-up of Põlva County in nature are real eye-catchers. We are the only museum in Estonia who studies the history of local authorities.
In addition to traditional tours we also offer special programmes: an old-fashioned class, capture-the-flag game, a court hearing, life in a barn-dwelling, as well as a wedding programme for newlyweds. The winter-time museum class with kindergartens and schools as target groups is called Museum in a Suitcase.
