The oldest architectural monument of its kind in Lääne-Virumaa. The present construction was built on the remnants of a medieval vassal citadel at the end of the 18th century. The castle once belonged among the strongest citadels of Virumaa. The most renowned owner of the castle was Admiral A. J. von Krusenstern – commander of the first Russian round-the-world voyage, compiler of the atlas of the South Sea (Pacific Ocean) and the organiser of many subsequent round-the-world trips. The memorial room of A. J von Krusenstern gives an overview of the family history, displays engravings depicting the round-the-world voyage, testimonial medals, corresponding literature etc.
